Dr Surachai Srisaracam
Executive Committee (Central)
Surachai has been a civil servant for almost his entire life. The former Permanent-Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), had plans to build Smart Thailand, but faced challenges after to the military coup d’état in 2014. The 13-digit national identification number used today by the general public is the result of Surachia's contribution to the Information Systems of Thailand. Once he heard of the newly established political party, it gave him hope to be able to serve the people before his retirement.
Surachai Srisaracam was born on 2 April, 1955, in Udon Thani Province. His father was a civil servant in the Ministry of Interior.
Surachai attended Assumption College Sriracha and Triam Udom Suksa school, among the best schools in the country. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Law from Ramkhamhaeng University in 1977. After passing the test and attaining the position of a Deputy District Chief, he went on to pursue a Master’s Degree Public Administration (MPA) at Roosevelt University US, in 1980. Surachai received the Computer World Smithsonian Award in 1990. He earned his Doctoral Degree in Public Administration from Suan Dusit University in 2003.
One of his early successes was his dissertation on facilitating the public service registration system through utilising the national identification numbers. Surachai attained several positions within the Ministry of Interior after returning from the US, becoming the Deputy District Chief and Provincial Governor of many districts and provinces. During his time as the Governor of Nakhon Nayok province, he led local administrations to successfully develop social welfare parameters as an extension to the civil registration data, in order to ensure all-round policy results.
Why Future Forward
Surachai was looking into a solution for the country as his final years of civil service were approaching, once Surachai heard of the party’s four principles – stand against dictatorship, to uphold democracy, to stand against corruption and to serve for the benefits of the people – he decided to join Future Forward despite not knowing any of the members. Surachai hopes, as the party’s executive committee, to create a better society for the next generations.
In his free time, Surachai enjoys golf and reading academic articles through online media.
